Client

The

Upstep has been in business for over 20 years and has sold over 80k custom orthotics around the world. But an outdated website was preventing the company from increasing conversion rates and truly educating their target market about their products and services.
They also faced a hurdle in conveying the possibility of purchasing quality, affordable orthotics from an online store.

PURPLE is an integral part of our vision. They are our six players in this game. Together we managed to reach our goals and beyond.

How Upstep improved its conversion rate and educated its target market

Challenge

Outdated Magento/CMS website in need of improvements to scale the business

The Vision

A custom website that converts and educates customers about their high-quality custom orthotics.

What was wrong with their current process?

01
lacked complex integration
Upstep’s Magento/CMS site lacked complex integration services, and APIs needed to take the site to the next level.
03
converting
the site wasn’t converting customers
02
Their site was basic
Didn’t have the high-quality, custom feel of their orthotics,
04
information gap
between Upstep and the customers that the website wasn’t bridging. Ultimately, no need for their product was created.

Summary

Outdated site lacking the infrastructure needed to scale the business.

Also: Upstep needed a website with unique E-commerce flows, without Shopify templates.

Solution

In order to identify the client’s needs and create a custom website and admin system, we worked with Upstep team to identify their specific needs and come up with solutions for each of the individual challenges around the website. Our team broke down each challenge into a specific task and assigned each to a custom development team. This allowed us to create a custom site and Admin system that gave Upstep more control over their website and the ability to analyze their data with preciseness.

02
Conversions
The features increased the conversion and retention rate on the Upstep website.
01
Flow
Created more natural eCommerce flows for clients, adding questionnaires, up-sales, cross-sales, unique product parameters, etc.
04
Product management
Improved the process by creating managed sprints and roadmaps with Upstep’s vision in mind.
03
Custom
Our developers created a unique website that uses no generic eCommerce components.

The

Scope

Page Design
Our team built a custom site from front to back. Our team's focus was to improve the site with a new design that incorporates natural eCommerce flow along with other unique elements that drive conversion and retention.
Admin system
With the old website, the client was stuck in a structure that took away a lot of custom controls for the site. Because of this, there was also a limited ability to analyze their own sales data. We improved the Admin side using a wide range of integrations that gave Upstep more control and allowed them to analyze their site data properly.
Integrations
To take the site to the next level, our team included several integration services and APIs. These integrations help the site address many of the needs we laid out at the beginning of the project. For example, customer payment options are a common sticking point. To address this issue, we integrated both Stripe and Klarna to give customers a wide range of payment options.
Maintenance
purple continues to provide ongoing site maintenance that includes upgrades with new features to improve the website's conversion rate.
Backend
we used NodeJS because of its single-threaded nature that uses a real-time, push-based architecture. Also, back-end API services integrate well into this JavaScript runtime environment.
